Granada has made efforts to boost the province as a sustainable tourist destination, following a model for tourism that respects the planet and minimises environmental repercussions while promoting the well-being and social equity of residents and tourists.
For Granada and its province, sustainability is more than just awareness; it is a commitment to action and the only viable way of doing tourism. The professional and specialised MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Events) tourism sector of the city shows its environmental commitment through official ISO 20121 certifications, measuring and offsetting the carbon footprint of events, employing responsible waste management, giving preference to local and Km-0 products, digitalisation to promote paper-free events, and an overall approach to sustainability that takes into account the social, economic, and environmental perspective of the city and its surroundings.
The Granada Convention Bureau, the organisation in charge of promoting Granada as a MICE destination, belongs to the Sustainability Commission of the Granada Chamber of Commerce. It is committed to staying at the forefront of the latest policies, tools, and programmes in the field of sustainability applicable to the MICE sector.
La Huella Verde (The Green Footprint) project is the most recent example of sustainable practices implemented in the destination to reduce, measure, and control the environmental impacts of events and congresses in Granada.
A CSR activity is planned to kick off the event. Join the Seed Bombs Workshop and be part of an exciting initiative to revitalize degraded soils in our ecological restoration project area! Soil degradation is a major challenge in our region, but together, we can make a difference.
All hotels are conveniently located within walking distance of the main venue. Should transportation be required during the event, sustainable vehicles will be used to ensure sustainability. Aligned with the initiative of the City Council of Granada and its #GranadaRespira campaign, the vehicles are certified with the ECO environmental label and Zero Emissions Environmental Label.
The event will feature sustainable cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, offering a wide variety of vegetarian options.
Together with Omawa Huella Ecológica, we will calculate the Carbon Footprint of the Global Association Forum 2025, helping us understand and take responsibility for our environmental impact.
To offset the ICCA Global Association Forum’s carbon footprint, we’re restoring the Mediterranean native forest in Bosque La Huella Verde, Sierra Nevada. In partnership with Movimiento Huella Verde and IDEA, we’ll plant at least 50 trees and ensure their growth. The planting will take place after the congress during a Volunteer Day, with annual progress reports.
The lanyards for this event will be crafted from Ultrafine Recycled PET and will feature a label confirming they are made from 100% recycled materials
