Experienced Director with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organization management industry. Skilled in Congress management, Marketing Strategy, Finance, and Hospitality Industry. Strong professional graduated from Hogeschool voor Economische Studies Amsterdam (HES).
Ben has spent almost 30 years in the international not-for-profit sector with an emphasis on the management of professional medical associations. A visionary and entrepreneurial business leader focussed on the concept and implementation of strategies that inspire stakeholders to achieve desired goals. He has a keen understanding of the association business model, especially in business administration, relationship-building, community management, board governance, and organizational growth.
Ben is the Managing Director of EASL, the European Association for the Study of the Liver. This leading international society has over 4,000 members from all continents, and the annual meeting remains the major international scientific event for the liver with over 10,000 participants. EASL also runs a comprehensive portfolio of smaller educational meetings, a broad collection of online education and an array of digital tools. EASL is also active in public health, patient engagement and policy, a trusted and expert advisor to European and national health authorities.
Prior to this, Ben founded K.I.T.GmbH's Association Management Division in Berlin, Germany. Managing numerous associations such as International Liver Transplantation Society, International Union of Immunology Societies, International Society for Pediatric & Adolescent Diabetes, European Operating Room Nurses Association and the World Forum on Rheumatic & Musculoskeletal Diseases.
Until 2014 Ben was responsible for the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congresses portfolio, this included Europe’s largest medical conference (30,000 delegates) and 8 specialty events. In parallel he enhanced the physical events offering with digital and partnership networks such as the ESC 365 online digital platform and the ESC Global Scientific Activities international outreach program.
Finola is an association professional, with over 25 years’ experience with not-for-profit associations and conferences. She has been the Manager of AC Forum since April 2020. She had previously served on the Board of AC Forum and had been involved with the association over many years.
Frances van Klaveren joined ICCA as the Community Engagement Manager in January 2021, focussing on developing and engaging with the ICCA Association Community.
Frances became a Certified Association Executive through the ASAE in 2020 and has 15+ years’ experience in international programme management, membership engagement and volunteer management, working for non-profit associations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Biochemical Society in London, UK. Frances is passionate about working with association professionals and other stakeholders within the meetings industry.
She also has a keen interest in regenerative and sustainable leadership and young professional engagement, and currently works on projects within ICCA including the Future Leaders Council and Net Zero Carbon Events.
Nicole Kaijser serves as a member of the AC Forum Board in the capacity of Education Officer, organising all educational activities, workshops and the Annual Meeting programme as Chair of the Education Group.
Nicole has worked in various event and programme capacities for higher education institutions in the UK. She currently works at the European Association for International Education (EAIE) in Amsterdam overseeing and designing all online and in-person learning activities for the association, with member and non-member virtual engagements reaching the high thousands in 2020/1.
Passionate about learning design, she trains and provides instructional design support for all contributors to the training programmes, webinars and Annual Conferences and is always on the hunt for the newest participant engagement methods.
Monica Fontana was born in the United States in 1965; she moved to Europe in 1970 and grew up in Parma (Italy).
In 1991, while writing her university thesis, she started working for the ERA (formally ERA-EDTA), a charity based in England and Wales with more than 7,000 active members, various medical journals, a European Registry and various working groups and committees supporting research and educational in nephrology. As the person in charge of the membership office, Monica was able to be aware of all the various activities of the Association, from the Registry activities (being also appointed at the financial manager of an EU funded project linked to the Registry), the fellowship initiatives, the research programmes, the educational courses.
ERA organizes the second largest annual nephrology Congress worldwide and Monica was actively involved in many of the activities done during the annual Congress especially linked to the various committees as well as the internal and external relations. From 1995 until 2016, working from home, she added many other tasks to her main duties: the bylaws, advisor to the President (and Council), advertising and public and international relations. In 2015, Monica became the Executive Manager of the ERA thus managing all the international operative staff of the association. In 2018 Monica was appointed as ERA Executive Director.
Aileen is Head of Tourism & Conventions at the award-winning Glasgow Convention Bureau, responsible for the successful positioning of Glasgow as a conference destination for national and international association meetings.
As a keen supporter of the meetings industry, Aileen currently sits on the ICCA (Board as Vice President and Destination Sector Co-Chair.
Catherine Kalamidas has been active in the international events industry for more than 20 years, initially developing & organizing high level congresses in the maritime industry, and later serving as Director of Operations for an international PCO, leading the activities of the European Space Agency Conference Bureau.
Catherine is on the Education Committee of the ICCA France Benelux Chapter and a member of the Meetings Industry Steering Group of City Destinations Alliance. Catherine joined the Rotterdam Partners CVB in 2016 and has since collaborated with Rotterdam’s triple helix of government, industry and academia to strategically acquire international congresses which align with the future ambitions of the city and its institutes.
Carina Montagut has degree in Tourism, in addition she completed her training with a Marketing and Commercial Management master and multiple courses that keep her up to date in her professional development. In fact, currently, she is part of a Venue Digital Intrapreneurship program.
She began her professional career in the Tourism Industry and has been involved in the MICE sector since 2002. Since then she is part of the staff of Feria Valencia, where she has held different positions, Carina began at the commercial department, going through the Investment & development office, helping her all this to become the Director of the Events Department, overseeing the management and operation of the entire team and subsequently Carina was promoted to the Strategical Events Manager position at Feria Valencia. We cannot forget to mention also the interesting professional background that she has developed as a Postgraduate teacher, conference Speaker, Round table moderator and a long etc.
Carina has grown professionally by being an active ICCA Family member, since 2014, she has been part of the ICCA Iberian Chapter Executive Committee and since 2019 she manages the Secretariat. Due to her dynamism, she is currently a member of the International Board of Directors of ICCA as venue representative.
Carina has a lot of passion & enthusiasm and is always involved in everything. All her energy and motivation makes her believe in constant improvement.
Over the past 4 years, Noureddine M’ghari has been working for EAACI, an association of clinicians, researchers and allied health professionals, dedicated to improving the health of people affected by allergic diseases with more than 13,000 members from 124 countries and over 50 National Allergy Societies. In his position as Congress & Events Manager, he works closely with EAACI board of officers, executive committee, venues, convention bureaus, sponsors and local authorities.
Before moving to Switzerland to join EAACI, Noureddine began his career in the South of France working in events, assisting in delivering medical exhibitions, then managing sponsored sessions. A creative thinker, with over 15 years in the congress and events field within medical associations, Noureddine enjoys collaboration in the event design process, and provides indispensable logistical know-how to his team with his detail-oriented style.
Noureddine’s creativity and love of challenges is matched only by his passion for international cuisine, travel, music, series, and movies. His creative input and innovative visions are indispensable resources, and his onsite presence plays a vital role in the completion of successful events.
