Sustainability is an increasingly important topic in the event industry. Tools and resources are now available to event professionals to support them in reducing the environmental impact of their events. But the path between theory and practice is paved with challenges and opportunities that has many of us asking: “How do I practically implement sustainable event practices?” Drawing upon the approaches to event sustainability adopted by IUCN for the annual IUCN Leaders Forum and the quadrennial IUCN World Conservation Congress, this session aims to share lessons from the event organiser perspectives, before delving into an interactive discussion across participants to unpack challenges and identify opportunities to implement sustainable event practices. Join us to craft creative solutions through an approach grounded in common will, action and exchange, that contribute towards the global goals for nature. Learner outcomes: Demonstrate real-world sustainable event strategies through the lens of seasoned event organisers for immediate application in your own planning. Engage in a collaborative dialogue, where triumphs and trials in sustainable event execution are shared, fostering a community of shared learning for organisers and suppliers. Devise actionable solutions tailored to specific sustainability challenges, equipping them with a toolkit for impactful event transformation.
